Grey wolves lived in Ireland from the Ice Age until the late eighteenth century.

In the sixteenth century, long after wolves had been eliminated from England and Scotland, Ireland was reputedly known as ‘Wolf-Land’.

In 2019, the Green Party proposed that wolves should be reintroduced into Ireland, arguing that wolves would have a positive effect on the environment and ecosystem.

Wolves were reintroduced into Yellowstone National Park in the United States in 1995. Since then, it is believed that they have played a vital role in revitalising the park and restoring balance between predator and prey.
